World War I - Our Local Heroes

During World War I, Coombs lost three residents.  Below are their stories.

Edgar Norton Ford

The youngest son of logging contractor Walter Ford of Coombs, lost in action the first day.

Leonard Foster - 1898 - 1917

Leonard was the eldest son of  Coombs Salvation Army Colony Foster family whose first home in 1910 was where Demxx is located today.  Several years later the family moved up to be closer to the French Creek.  After 4 years of living in the dense bush of Vancouver Island ,Leonard was probably so very  excited to be returning to Britain , as his family had  emigrated  from the busy city of London.

Charles William 'Will' Parker - 1896 - 1916

Charles William Parker, "Will" to his family, was born June 15, 1896 in Scalby, Yorkshire, to John William Parker and Sarah Ann Estill, the second eldest of seven children.
